This honestly happened to me. It was the first time a customer had EVER taken money from my tip jar, and she just so completely nonchalantly swiped it from my jar (79 cents, almost a full dollar) that I had NO idea how to react. In some places, you can’t tell a customer to put your money back, and I didn’t know if my manager would be angry that I’d admonished a customer, so I stared blankly at her.

I do not work at a cafe, but I do work at a smoothie shop and there are too many times this happened. I usually just glare at them and make their smoothie with little fruit and extra ice.

All to often when I work during the holidays, I get customers with their arms full of merchandise who don’t realize that the reason we’re working is because people like you show up at all hours to buy stuff!

Every single holiday I work. Why? Because people like you can’t not shop for one day.
